What You Need To Know About Finger Feet East Bay

Have you ever seen those crazy looking shoes called "Finger Feet?" They are the most unusual athletic shoes on the market and I don't think they are a fad.

About 3 years an employee of mine was wearing these shoes. I thought they were the oddest looking things. I asked him what they felt like and if they are comfortable. His reply was, "They felt like he was barefoot."

I swore I would never buy these shoes, but after doing some research on the internet, I decided to buy a pair.

I decided to invest in a pair because I'm flat footed and I always had foot and arch injuries my whole life. I read that finger feet will help correct your arch when you stand, walk, run, or jog. And over time your posture will be corrected and won't experience foot problems anymore.

Remember our ancestors walked and ran this earth bare foot for millions of years and I'm sure that no one back then had foot problems.

Because you are using your muscles in your feet, your feet are getting stronger.

Plus I heard that training in finger feet makes exercise a lot more challenging. Because you are using the muscles in your feet to perform exercise, you will burn more calories because you are involving more muscle groups  throughout your whole body.

When I first wore them I was trying them on at a local east bay shoe store and they were extremely uncomfortable. In order for your feet to get used to them, you need to wear them for an hour a day for 7 days straight. The finger feet will stretch out your tendons in your toes and feet which may be uncomfortable at first.

Because 99% of us grew up wearing shoes, our muscles in our toes and feet are barely used in everday living. When you start wearing finger feet, the muscles in your feet will start being used.

Just like getting started on a new fitness program, the muscles and tendons in your feet need to be exercised. The first week your toes and feet may be sore.

I was actually comtemplating returning them, but after a couple of days they started to feel comfortable on my feet.

Now I wear my finger feet everywhere I go. They are so comfortable that I don't like wearing shoes anymore.

If you have any questions about these shoes, just leave your questions at the bottom.

Thanks for the info. Will wearing these shoes eventually cause your feet to widen? I like running and have noticed that ever since I started wearing running shoes my feet are getting wider and when I wear heels my feet hurt. I guess they got use to flat shoes. Just wondering if these shoes may have the same affect?

Let me know what you think?

Thanks

No because these shoes will help you correct your arch and force your feet to use muscles that aren't normally used while wearing shoes.

Your feet will flatten and widen out by wearing flip flops or barefoot.

Finger feet will not only strengthen the muscles in your toes and feet, but make your ankle and calves stronger due to improvement in balance. This will help while wearing heals.

Hope I answered your question correctly.

One of my patients ran over 25 Marathons BAREFOOT back in the day....he is pushing 77 now....he said BAREFOOT running is the best...I won't do it because I don't want rough feet, but I have been wanting to try the Finger Feet...I am starting to train for my 2nd Marathon, which will be The Oakland Marathon in March 2011....

@Shirley-they are great shoes, you need to get yourself a pair. It just takes about a week to get used to them. You can go to REI or Transport in Albany on Solana Ave. They will let you try them on and run or walk on their treadmill. It's a good investment.

We've been wearing them for a while and they are great! If you have been running in "traditional" running shoes though, you have to re-learn how to run. Tim is one of only 6 level 3 POSE running coaches in the country and has a running clinic going this weekend. Seriously - we'll throw you in. Check it out at: http://crossfitsr.com/pose-running/.

When I decided to start running I knew I didn't want to deal with shin splints, busted knees and back pain. I did my research along with a tip from a friend, and started running in my sandals. They look like fake Teva's. I saved up some money for some Vibrams and love them. I actually switch between going completey barefoot, and in my Vibrams. I'm currently still finding ways to strengthen my foot muscles since I started in them WAY too fast. Gotta take your time. Your feet have to reverse the damage that shoes have given them for years. My blog is all about my journey through barefoot/minimalistic running.

@Melissa I agree it does take time to train your muscles to get used to finger feet. And you need to learn how to run again wearing these new shoes. It's a totally different technique than running in regular shoes.

So I bought a treadmill at home so I can work on incline running. I run completely barefoot on it. It's fine, but there is friction when you run in the same spot for long. May need to wear socks or my Vibrams.

But now I have also started running outside completely barefoot. Saturday, over a mile in my Vibrams. Sunday, over a mile barefoot. The time and distance is short, but I am training my feet to revert to how they were supposed to work.

Pics of my feet after my barefoot runs are on my blog.
