Cal Berkeley scientists and universities nationwide are doing research on how music affects the human brain, emotions and mood. They are discovering everything from what kind of music to play in a store to motivate you to purchase more stuff to what types of pitches and tones alleviate depression and even create a romantic atmosphere.
Through their diligent work they are finding both a reason and a label for that awesome feeling we get when our favorite jam comes on the radio. That serge of energy and subtle feeling of excitement easily lifts your mood. If you need to get motivated before your workouts, go to your local East Bay music store to find out what motivates you.
You can apply this same concept to your daily work out. Some days we are ready to hit it hard by taking work and lifestyle frustrations out on treadmill or free weights. On these days, play something with strong bass lines and quick rhythms like Hip Hop, Reggaeton or Rock and Roll or your favorite hits from high school. Some days we hope find stress relief through deep stretching and long, gentle fluid motions. On these days, load up the iPod with jazz or classical music. The brain is a key muscle in any fitness plan and music can be the perfect tool for toning the body and mind together.
Load up your iPod with an hour of your favorites and lose yourself with your East Bay music. The rhythm will keep you going and the work out will be done before you know it. Below you'll find about an hour of music taken from the play lists of some of our favorite and fittest celebrities and sports stars:
