In Part 2 of this mini-series, I will discuss how to hire your local East Bay fitness trainer. One of the things you should do before hiring a trainer is to interview them first before making any decisions.
Here are my top 3 questions to ask an East Bay personal trainer:
- Ask them what kind of national certifications they have. You don't want to be with a fitness trainer who is uneducated and doesn't know
anything about training. Some of the top national certifications out there are NASM, ACSM,NSCA, & AFFA. Also, if they hold any college degrees that are related to fitness, this is good as well.
- Find out what area their expertise is in. Most trainers are good at a variety of styles, but if you are looking for weight loss, find a fitness trainer who is an expert at weight loss. If you had a motorcycle and needed it fixed, you probably wouldn't take it to a car mechanic. You will probably take it to a motorcycle specialist. So find the expert for your problem.

- Make sure your personality meshes with their personality. You will spend alot of time with your trainer so you've got to make sure you connect with them. You don't want to be stuck with someone you don't like for a long period of time. If you don't like your trainer, your experience won't be ideal in helping you reach your fitness goals. Not to mention, it won't motivate you to go to your session. Remember, go with your gut; if you feel if the trainer you are interviewing is not the fit for you, don't sign up with them even if their price is within your budget.

Don't look at price too much when looking for an East Bay fitness trainer. If you want to price shop a trainer, I can promise you that you will not get to your fitness goals. Invest in your health by finding the right trainer who is educated, has good energy, has the expertise for your goal, and has a personality that meshes well with yours.

Many people in the East Bay are looking for weight loss solutions. There are hundreds of diets, fat burning pills, and exercise equipment that promise weight loss results.
The truth of the matter is that there is no such thing as the magic pill that will ever guarantee weight loss East Bay!
The only way you can absolutely guarantee weight loss results would be from hard work in the gym and consistency with a clean nutrition plan.
The number one reason why a lot of locals here in the East Bay gain weight is because of processed foods. We live in a society where everyone is always rushing to get somewhere. The main excuse I get from a lot of my clients is that they don't have time to eat good food because they are always in a rush to do something.
Since most people are always rushing home from work, picking up the kids, etc., most people will go to a fast food restaurant to get a quick bite to eat.

In time, this kind of fast food eating will result in weight gain. Eating out can be addicting and a very bad habit to break.
On this website, we have a lot of video tutorials of different workout routines that you can do from home that will help with weight loss.
In this video, my wife and I will show you how we prepare our food each and every week so that we don't get tempted to eat out.
When you prepare your food once a week and pre-package everything for the
work week, you would be very surprised how much money you will save each month and how much weight you will lose from just altering your eating habits.
Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think of our strategy for weight loss.

The best way to lose weight the quickest is functional training. What I mean by functional training are body weighted exercises, moving your body in different planes of motion (real life movements), and core/stability training. This kind of training is the most effective.
Over the next couple of weeks Jenn will be demonstrating various kettle bell training exercises that will help promote weight loss. She will show the correct way of how to perform these exercises and a combination of circuit training that you can implement on your own without going to the gym.
Kettlebells are not expensive and you can take them anywhere you go. So if you are going on a business trip/vacation or taking the kids to the park, you can literally perform these exercises anywhere.
Kettlebell training when done correctly only takes 15-30 minutes a day and is a great
quick workout. So if your on the go all the time learn these techniques because when done correctly kettlebell training can help speed up your metabolism, promote weight loss, & tone your muscles in the quickest amount of time.
Follow these exercises that we are going to show you and you will be on your way to losing weight. Bring your kettlebells with you and do these exercises that we are going to show you.

January is upon us and I know alot of you are looking to get back in shape at the beginning of the year. Over the next couple weeks I will share with you some things that you should look out for before hiring your east bay fitness trainer.
Here are my top 3:
- Before hiring a fitness trainer observe them while they are in session with their client. The trainer should have 100% focus on their
client the whole time. If you notice a trainer not paying attention or interacting with their clients, chances are they don't care about their client. They should have their clients undivided attention the whole time. Chances are if you trainer isn't paying attention to you, it basically means that they don't care about you or your fitness goals.
- You want a fitness trainer with good positive energy. At the beginning of the morning you need a trainer who will be excited to see you and motivating you through your workout to help start your day. It's the same thing after you get off from a long day at work, your fitness trainer needs to happy to see you and not tired. Their job is to motivate and coach you to your fitness goals.

- Are the clients having fun or interacting well with their fitness trainer. You want to make sure that the trainer and client are having fun in session. The client should be working hard, but having fun at the same time. The fitness trainer should be making each session fun and enjoyable for their clients. If it doesn't look like the client is working hard or having a fun time then you don't want to hire that trainer. Since you will be spending alot of time with your fitness trainer over the next couple months, you need to make sure your personality is compatible with theirs.

Most of people know the basic steps to weight loss: Eat right and exercise. However, there are definitely ways to fine tune your fitness plan so it is more effective and so you can lose weight quickly. Follow these three weight loss tips, so you can start losing those extra pounds off your waist in no time.
1. Eat Breakfast
Don't skip breakfast...EVER! I hear it all too often "But I'm just not hungry". Well duh, you're body is not used to eating in the morning, but don't use that as an excuse. Eating in the morning kick starts your metabolism by 25%. You can burn more calories and avoid overeating later in the day. Plus, it gives you lots of energy to help you stay alert and focused at work. So get up and enjoy some whole grain toast with peanut butter, a scrambled egg wrap, or a protein shake. If you have a hard time eating that early, start with a few bites and gradually over time you find yourself waking up hungry and ready to eat.

2. Strength Train
If you're not including strength training in your weight loss program, then you're making a big mistake. If you're not sure what to do then hire a personal trainer who can get you started on the right path. Strength training builds muscle, which not only gives you a sexy, lean and toned look, but also burns fat because it increases your metabolism. Your body uses more calories to maintain muscle than it does fat!

3. Interval Training
Lastly if you're used to doing your regular, slow paced cardio for an hour on the elliptical or treadmill then try something new: interval training. Interval training will definitely promotes weight loss and save you time because you'll be working harder, thus burning more calories in a shorter amount of time. You'll also be challenging your body in new ways that will help you to avoid a plateau.

So if you're ready to lose weight following these tips today, especially with the holidays right around the corner!

Reason #1 Push Beyond Your Comfort Zone
In the military, new recruits go thought "boot camp" before they become a part of the service. During basic training, drill sergeants are responsible for mentally and physically pushing these new Soldiers beyond their comfort zone in order to help them reach their maximum potential.
Weight loss is an inevitable result for most new recruits at basic training. While that may not be enough to make you enlist, there's no reason you can't experience the benefits of a drill sergeant in your east bay personal trainer. You'll have a guide so that there will be someone to encourage you to continue right when you want to give-up and quit most during exercises. A good East Bay personal trainer will force you to push beyond the limits of your comfort zone to help you achieve your weight loss goals
Reason #2 Accountability
Human behavior studies show people are much more likely to stick to a fitness routine if they have an accountability partner. Some people rely on friends and spouses which can be a good start.
A downside can be that a friend or spouse is to easy to cancel on if you're having a bad day or just don't feel up to working out. Having time set aside to work out with a personal trainer will become a non-negotiable part of your schedule. Just this simple fact will lead to increased results and weight loss.
Reason #3 Expert Advice
If you feel like you're doing everything right and still aren't seeing the results you desire, it's time to bring in an expert! An East Bay personal trainer can help identify the things you're doing wrong that are causing you to not reach your fitness goals.
Reason #4 Break Through the Plateau
You may not realize it but if you're working out and not seeing results, you may truly be in a rut. Over time our bodies become accustomed to the challenges of any repetitive fitness routine so it's crucial that you switch it up. An East Bay personal trainer can work with you to isolate muscle groups that need attention and challenge your muscle memory.

January 1st 2010 is on the way and I know alot of people are going to want to get into shape for the new year. Most people will probably join there local east bay health club, but some are looking to hire a fitness trainer.
Before you decide to hire a fitness trainer, here are 3 simple things to look out for before hiring one:
- Make sure they are nationaly certified. It's scary to put your trust and
investment in someone who doesn't know what they are doing. My mother hired a fitness trainer at 24 hour fitness at Hilltop mall and soon found out that the reason why she wasn't seeing any results was because it was her trainers first fitness job. You want a trainer with experience
- Make sure that the fitness trainer is focused on you and not themselves. Theres nothing worse than a trainer checking themselves out in the mirror or on their cell phone when they should be standing next to you and giving you their undivided attention.

- Lastly make sure that your fitness trainer is on time to your sessions. If you get to the gym before your appointment, that means that they really don't care and that they aren't taking your time or your investment very seriously. Your fitness trainer should be at the facility before you and setting up your workout for that day.
So before you decide to invest in a fitness trainer at your local gym or studio, remember these 3 things to watch out for.

Here's another video blog post of what you should look out for before joining your local health club or fitness center in the East Bay.
Since January is right around the corner, I will be making a few video blog posts on what to look out for before joining a gym, hiring a personal trainer, and the tricks that these fake, so-called "fitness professionals" will do to get your hard-earned money.
I want to share this information with you because I know how frustrating it is to be scammed by someone after investing your hard-earned money.
In this video, I interviewed my friend and East Bay health club owner Pat Rodda. In this video, Pat will share a few things that you should consider before you join a gym or hire a personal trainer.
In this video, he goes over:
- How to pick a personal trainer
- How to decide on the right East Bay health club & fitness center to join
- How these health clubs and fitness centers will sell you what you want, but never deliver what they promise
If you have ever had a bad experience at your local East Bay health club or fitness center, please leave a comment below.

I interviewed my buddy Pico on what to look out for before signing a long term contract at your local East Bay health club. We are coming up on January 1st and I thought it would be important to educate you on the tricks that most East Bay health clubs will do to you when you enter their facility.
Before signing up at your local East Bay health club or 24 Hour Fitness club, you need to beware of a couple of things:
- Beware of minimal down payments (like a $1 or $0 down payments) because this basically means you will pay a big monthly payment.
- Beware of signing a long term agreement. (most clubs will try to lock you in on a 3-year committment) The hope is that you will sign up on this long term agreement and that you will never come back to use the facility or that you will cancel your membership.
- Beware of the cancellation policy. (Most East Bay health clubs won't allow to cancel unless you move 25 miles or more away from the club)
I had a friend who moved away from a 24 Hour Fitness club that ended up being about 24.5 miles away. He was unable to cancel his membership because he was technically close enough to use their facility.
The reason why most big coorperate gyms are like this is because they just care about getting your money and not helping you get the results you are looking for.
Before you decide on a local East Bay health club, refer back to this video before joining any gym in January.

Do you feel like your workout isn't working for you? Well, the reasons why your workout isn't getting you to your goal may have less to do with your activity level and more to do with your food intake.
The following 5 nutrition principles can help you augment your results:
Principle #1: Calories, Fat and Fiber DO Count, Pay Attention to Portions!
If you've ever done any of the popular high-protein, low carb diet such as the Atkins Plan, you may have gotten into the habit of disregarding any nutritional information not related to a carbohydrate. If you fall into that category, break out of it! The simple fact is that if you want to lose weight and successfully maintain you MUST pay attention to calories, fat and fiber. And, you must pay attention to portions! Choosing foods that are low in fat and calories and rich in fiber will go a long way to helping you achieve your weight loss goals.
Principle #2: Avoid the sinful "C's" of Cheese and Cream
This one builds on the principal above. While unlimited cheese and greasy chicken wings with ranch dressing may have helped your stave off your cravings for carbs, eating these fatty and high calorie foods can be detrimental to your weight loss goals.

Principle #3: Salad Secrets
Salads are a "go-to" food for many people watching their waistline and it's a great option. But, you must pay attention to what you put on your salad. A typical restaurant salad with croutons, fried crunchies, and delicious dressing can easily translate to just as much fat and calorie content as a greasy burger. Mexican style salads (sans the tostada, cheese and sour cream!) can be a great option for those trying to lose weight as salsa is a fantastic and low-fat dressing substitute.

Principle #4: Discover Soups
Soup is another fantastic option for a low-fat, low-calorie yet filling meal. Especially in the winter, it's a perfect choice is you want to lose weight. Remember to stay away from creamy soups which are often high in fat and opt for more weight loss friendly choices that use chicken or vegetable broth as a base. A delicious Italian low calorie soup can be made with vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, onions, celery, carrots, and any other veggies and seasonings you desire.

Principle #5: Fill up on veggies and beans, meat doesn't have to be on the menu for every meal!
With the exception of vegetarians, most Americans have been conditioned to eat meat with every meal from the time they were young. Even lean cuts of meat are much higher in fat and calories than their filling vegetable and bean counterparts. Many beans are also high in fiber and protein which make them an especially great choice for weight loss. And, if you're concerned about protein there are plenty of great alternatives, like soy protein, to help you feed your increasing lean muscles.

As we are entering the new year, most people are going to start looking into getting gym memberships at their local health clubs in the east bay. I think it's awesome to start the new year with a fitness program, but don't let the health clubs in the east bay fool you!
A lot of the the time gyms like 24 Hour Fitness, Bally Total Fitness, & other corporate gyms will try to take advantage of the consumer during the busiest year in our industry.
Here are a fews that the health clubs in the east bay will try to rip you off.
- $0 enrollement fee is the best way that most health clubs will drive traffic. When there is a $0 enrollement fee, usually means a big monthly payment.
- Most health clubs will set you up with an uncertified trainer that doesn't know how to train anyone, including themselves
- They will sell you the "bells & whistles" of the facility and then totally forget about you as a paying customer.
- They don't care about you getting results, just your monthly payments
So beware of these fake fitness professionals inside your health club, they are just salesman that want your hard earned money and don't care about you, your family, or your fitness goals.
There are alternatives to getting in shape than paying money to a local health club:
- Find your local independent east bay personal trainer (they are great because they specialize in getting you results that you are looking for.
- Just get active and start walking with a friend, this cost absolutely nothing!
- Find your local east bay boot camp (these bootcamps are a fraction of the cost of one on one training and usually is provided in a fun and motivating enviroment.

Due to the economy, alot of people have been very careful on how they spend their money. I know alot of my friends and family had to change their spending habits and not indulge as much into material things as they used too.
Because of this restriction in spending habits and people getting laid off, has created a heightened stress level amongst our society.
What better way to get rid of stress and that is to start working out. If you are extremely knowledgeable on health & fitness, this is not hard to do. Although if you are the average person who doesn't know how to exercise properly, understand basic nutrition, or needs the motivation to work out, you definetly need to find a fitness professional to guide you.
Most personal training programs are extremely expensive. It's a luxary item for most people. I have found the solution to everyone's problem who is looking to get back into great shape.
There has been a new fitness phenomena called fitness bootcamps. Fitness bootcamps have been around for the last 5 years, but hasn't gotten that popular until now and this is why:
- It's cost effective. Basically most bootcamps are a 1/3 of the cost of what one on one training typically is. So there is a ridiculus savings!
- It's a great place to meet new people who have the same fitness goals as you do.

- Everyone in the bootcamp, is extremely positive and very motivating
- Most bootcamps incorporate body weighted resistance exercises which are more effective for weight loss.
- Bootcamps are always fun and you never do the same exercises all the time like you normally would in a traditional gym.
- Most bootcamps are outside so you are not confined in a hot and humid facility.
From my experience I have seen significant results in weight loss when people participate in fitness bootcamps. They are fun, aerobic, and economically friendly.
If you want a flatter stomach & firmer hips and thighs then try our East Bay Boot Camp for 2 Weeks for a $1.
What's the catch? The catch is that you must come to all our boot camps and follow our nutrition plan for 2 whole weeks.
