When I first meet someone for a consultation, one of these things I say to them is that 25% of my clients will fail at accomplishing their fitness goals.
I try to be up front and honest when I first meet someone. The reason why I say this is to set the expectation that achieving your fitness goals will be hard and challenging.
Some the things that can prevent someone from accomplishing their goals is by having a ton of negative people in their lives and not getting out of your comfort zone by not trying a new workout program because it's too hard.
But if you don't surround yourself around negative people and are willing to get uncomfortable sometimes, you can still set your self up for failure.
Here are 5 ways you can fail:
1) Not Having Enough Variety In Your Workouts: Doing the same boring workout routines can get very boring. Being bored and not having fun with a workout can make someone quit very quickly. This happens a lot at the beginning of the year when people join the gym. After the first 5 months of the year most people either stop going to the gym or quit their membership altogether.
2) Doing All or Nothing: Exercising for 10 minutes is a lot better than not doing anything at all. If done right a 10 minute workout can be more beneficial than a long and boring 60 minute workout.
3) Setting Unrealistic Goals: Unrealistic goals can lead to dropping out of a program quickly. Instead of setting a 50 pound weight loss goal, set small attainable goals. For example strive for 2 pounds per week and then reward yourself for each small achievement.
4) Falling In The Trap Of Tomorrow: Let's be honest: When you say you're going to get started on a diet or workout program tomorrow, you are just procrastinating. Instead of waiting for tomorrow, start taking baby steps in the right direction with your fitness goals. For example, go for a 10 minute walk, start eating breakfast, or do crunches in between commercials while watching television. Any little thing will help get you in the habit towards exercising more.
5) Not Keeping A Food Journal: The number one reason why someone will fail at their fitness goals is not keeping a food log. You MUST keep a food journal and figure out how many calories your body is taking in each day. A food diary isn't just for counting calories, it's for accountability.
If you are serious about achieving your fitness goals this year, then take a pen and paper and copy this list. If you can prevent yourself from doing any of these things, then most likely you will accomplish your fitness goals.

If your fitness goals include weight loss and fat burning, kettlebell training is a great component to add to your current routine. The results from an effective kettlebell workout can be amazing if done properly.
Many women are gravitating toward kettelebell training because of the fact that it is a super fat burning workout. Most women have fitness goals of weight loss and building lean muscle mass, and kettlebell workouts offer those results when practiced regularly. Since kettlebells are such a challenging workout, most women notice a change in their body in as little as a week.
One of the unique things about kettlebell routines is that they are typically a lot shorter than a regular strength training workout with dumbbells. The reason for this is because kettlebells are heavy and disproportionate in comparison to a dumbbell, whose weight is evenly distributed. Not only are you engaging your muscles to lift the weight of a kettlebell, you are also engaging your muscles to control it.
Because of the level of difficulty of a kettlebell workout, workout times are usually half that of a typical dumbbell routine. Since you are engaging several different muscle groups all at once, kettlebell training can give you the same or even better results in less time.
Another benefit to kettlebell training is you can forego your typical boring elliptical machine session and use kettlebells instead. Used as a cardio workout, kettlebell routines can also help break your body out of a plateau, because it's challenging your body to do something unlike what you may currently be doing. The most effective way to break out of a plateau is to shock your body into working out differently.
Kettlebell training can be used in a bunch of different ways and yield huge benefits. You can use them to shake up your current cardio routine or as an adjunct to an already established workout routine. They not only help burn fat, but increase strength, endurance, but help build bone density, which is ideal for women to reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life.

Deciding what kind of personal training program to go with is a difficult thing to do, especially if you don't know what to look for in a Hercules personal trainer. Here are some helpful tips to ask yourself before starting a fitness training program in Hercules.
1) What kind of certification or education does this Hercules personal trainer have? Every fitness professional should be nationally certified or have some type
of college degree in the background of Kinesiology (Exercise Science). Here are a couple of national certifications that are recognized: National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Strength & Conditioning Association or the American Council of Exercise. You want to choose someone with these certifications, not some online or weekend crash course certifications that anyone can pay for.
2)Are you paying for personal training sessions or results? Anyone can lead someone through a series of exercises, but a good qualified Hercules fitness trainer will be able to deliver results through an effective fat burning program. A Hercules personal trainer must be able to do more than just standing there counting reps, they must be a motivational coach that will show you all the elements to achieving your health & fitness goals.
Your personal trainer should be able to give you nutritional guidance, keep you motivated, and extended support through email and phone coaching. A good fitness trainer will always give you continuous support in your quest to get fit. When you look for the right Hercules fitness trainer, make sure that they will have an action plan each and every week to help you achieve your fitness goals.
3) Does this Hercules personal training program have proven systems for results? A successful personal trainer should do more than just take your money. They should have proven systems that are guaranteed to work each and every single time. A great way to check if they're on top of their game is to check out their clients' Before and After pictures to see if they've had any results. If you notice little or no change in their clients' Before and After pictures, most likely this trainer can't deliver what they promised you.

4) Does this Hercules fitness trainer have a guarantee? Let's face it: Personal training is a luxury expense and is a financial commitment. If you are investing thousands of dollars in your body, your Hercules personal trainer should have a money-back guarantee. After all, if your personal trainer can deliver results, they should never worry about the guarantee. If your fitness trainer is not willing to have a MONEBACK GUARANTEE, then you shouldn't invest your time and money.
5) Will your trainer help you make your fitness a way of life for the future? You want to make sure that your personal trainer is a motivational coach as well as your fitness trainer. I know it may be hard to start and continue a fitness program, which is why your trainer should also have traits of a coach. They should be there to help get you through the hard and difficult times while trying to help keep you to stay motivated with your fitness program.
6) Does your Hercules fitness trainer have any experience in the fitness industry? You want to make sure that your personal trainer views their profession as a career and not a job. You definitely don't want to invest your time with someone who views this industry as a hobby, that thinks hanging out in the gym is a social event, or is just doing it to pay bills. You want to work with someone who is passionate and truly loves helping and changing people's lives through fitness.
A true fitness professional has articles published, is relied upon by the local media, speaks at fitness seminars and donates their free time to various organizations while promoting health & fitness. These are true traits of a real fitness professional, not someoe who just hangs out in a gym.
7) Does your Hercules personal trainer address all areas of fitness? Look for your local Hercules fitness trainer that will guide you through all aspects of fitness, not just the exercise. This is where most trainers drop the ball. Find a trainer who will focus on proper eating habits, motivational strategies to keep you excited about working out, and will give you a plan of action to help you achieve your goals in the shortest amount of time possible.
If you don't address these 7 basic questions you will have wasted your time and money.

In Part 2 of this mini-series, I will discuss how to hire your local East Bay fitness trainer. One of the things you should do before hiring a trainer is to interview them first before making any decisions.
Here are my top 3 questions to ask an East Bay personal trainer:
- Ask them what kind of national certifications they have. You don't want to be with a fitness trainer who is uneducated and doesn't know
anything about training. Some of the top national certifications out there are NASM, ACSM,NSCA, & AFFA. Also, if they hold any college degrees that are related to fitness, this is good as well.
- Find out what area their expertise is in. Most trainers are good at a variety of styles, but if you are looking for weight loss, find a fitness trainer who is an expert at weight loss. If you had a motorcycle and needed it fixed, you probably wouldn't take it to a car mechanic. You will probably take it to a motorcycle specialist. So find the expert for your problem.

- Make sure your personality meshes with their personality. You will spend alot of time with your trainer so you've got to make sure you connect with them. You don't want to be stuck with someone you don't like for a long period of time. If you don't like your trainer, your experience won't be ideal in helping you reach your fitness goals. Not to mention, it won't motivate you to go to your session. Remember, go with your gut; if you feel if the trainer you are interviewing is not the fit for you, don't sign up with them even if their price is within your budget.

Don't look at price too much when looking for an East Bay fitness trainer. If you want to price shop a trainer, I can promise you that you will not get to your fitness goals. Invest in your health by finding the right trainer who is educated, has good energy, has the expertise for your goal, and has a personality that meshes well with yours.

January is upon us and I know alot of you are looking to get back in shape at the beginning of the year. Over the next couple weeks I will share with you some things that you should look out for before hiring your east bay fitness trainer.
Here are my top 3:
- Before hiring a fitness trainer observe them while they are in session with their client. The trainer should have 100% focus on their
client the whole time. If you notice a trainer not paying attention or interacting with their clients, chances are they don't care about their client. They should have their clients undivided attention the whole time. Chances are if you trainer isn't paying attention to you, it basically means that they don't care about you or your fitness goals.
- You want a fitness trainer with good positive energy. At the beginning of the morning you need a trainer who will be excited to see you and motivating you through your workout to help start your day. It's the same thing after you get off from a long day at work, your fitness trainer needs to happy to see you and not tired. Their job is to motivate and coach you to your fitness goals.

- Are the clients having fun or interacting well with their fitness trainer. You want to make sure that the trainer and client are having fun in session. The client should be working hard, but having fun at the same time. The fitness trainer should be making each session fun and enjoyable for their clients. If it doesn't look like the client is working hard or having a fun time then you don't want to hire that trainer. Since you will be spending alot of time with your fitness trainer over the next couple months, you need to make sure your personality is compatible with theirs.

January 1st 2010 is on the way and I know alot of people are going to want to get into shape for the new year. Most people will probably join there local east bay health club, but some are looking to hire a fitness trainer.
Before you decide to hire a fitness trainer, here are 3 simple things to look out for before hiring one:
- Make sure they are nationaly certified. It's scary to put your trust and
investment in someone who doesn't know what they are doing. My mother hired a fitness trainer at 24 hour fitness at Hilltop mall and soon found out that the reason why she wasn't seeing any results was because it was her trainers first fitness job. You want a trainer with experience
- Make sure that the fitness trainer is focused on you and not themselves. Theres nothing worse than a trainer checking themselves out in the mirror or on their cell phone when they should be standing next to you and giving you their undivided attention.

- Lastly make sure that your fitness trainer is on time to your sessions. If you get to the gym before your appointment, that means that they really don't care and that they aren't taking your time or your investment very seriously. Your fitness trainer should be at the facility before you and setting up your workout for that day.
So before you decide to invest in a fitness trainer at your local gym or studio, remember these 3 things to watch out for.

Here's another video blog post of what you should look out for before joining your local health club or fitness center in the East Bay.
Since January is right around the corner, I will be making a few video blog posts on what to look out for before joining a gym, hiring a personal trainer, and the tricks that these fake, so-called "fitness professionals" will do to get your hard-earned money.
I want to share this information with you because I know how frustrating it is to be scammed by someone after investing your hard-earned money.
In this video, I interviewed my friend and East Bay health club owner Pat Rodda. In this video, Pat will share a few things that you should consider before you join a gym or hire a personal trainer.
In this video, he goes over:
- How to pick a personal trainer
- How to decide on the right East Bay health club & fitness center to join
- How these health clubs and fitness centers will sell you what you want, but never deliver what they promise
