When I was growing up, I was a total "momma's boy." My mot
her realized how attached I was to her that she knew that if she didn't get me to do things on my own and become independent that it could hinder me in my life.
So this is what she did...
One day when I came home from school, my mom told me that she signed me up for Little League and Pop Warner football. I was so upset and scared to play any contact sport because I didn't want to get hurt. I did what any 8 year-old would do when they didn't get their way, and I cried all night long pleading with my mom to not let me play.
To make a long story short, turned out that I was a decent athlete. I gained an athletic scholarship out of high school to play football and baseball at the Division 1 level. After college, I played 6 months of professional baseball in the Milwaukee Brewer's organization. If my mother did not make me play baseball and football, I wouldn't have known my athletic potential. I wouldn't have known I had any athletic potential had I not tried out. I had to experience a brief period of awkwardness, fear, and doubt before I had athletic success.
If it wasn't for my mom, I probably wouldn't have the success of owning a business or having a family of my own. I probably would be living by myself and alone due too being afraid of getting out of my comfort zone and taking chances in life.
You need to take a chance on yourself!
The point of this story was to tell you that I know change is scary, but it is necessary for human progress. I had to go through what I call "the hoop of fire" and get out of my comfort zone to experience for myself that challenges are good and that it makes you a better person.
I know a lot of people don't like the feeling of failure. But the only way to experience success in whatever you do is to learn from your mistakes. If you never take chances, you will never know what your true potential can be.
If you are unhappy with the way you look and feel, you need to do something about it. You need to get started on a workout program instead of sitting around and talking about it. I know alot of people tend to procrastinate and never start or finish a workout program because it's hard.
The sad thing is that a lot of people just give up on themselves because they are getting out of their comfort zone. The only way you will ever achieve your fitness goal is to get started and get through the growing pains of a new workout program. Once you get started, it's easy to continue.
You need to face your biggest fears in order to get what you want in life. If your looking for weight loss, you need to go through "the hoop of fire" in order to achieve your goals. You need to experience the pain, feeling uncomfortable, & awkwardness of a new workout program. If you don't, you will never experience the change that you want.
